Directive of the Pershing County Commissioners Regarding COVID-19

WHEREAS, Nevada Revised Statute 241.020 authorizes the Board of Commissioners to meet for emergency situations without the a three day public notice; and

WHEREAS, the Pershing County Board of Commissioners convened an emergency meeting at 8:00 a.m. on March 17, 2020, to discuss existing dangers to the public's health, safety, welfare, and property; and

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are responding to an outbreak of a respiratory disease has been named coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated as COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic; and

WHEREAS, the Honorable Governor Steve Sisolak has declared a state of emergency for the State of Nevada to respond to the Coronavirus; and

WHEREAS, as of March 17, 2020, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pershing County;

NOW THEREFORE, the Pershing County Board of Commissioners hereby issues the following directive to protect the health, safety, welfare, and property of Pershing County employees and residents:

All Citizen Advisory Board Meetings conducting non-essential business are suspended until April 6, 2020. This temporary suspension will be evaluated after this time.

The Pershing County Library, Senior Center, and the Marzen House Museum are closed to the public until April 6, 2020. Employees will continue to perform their assigned duties at these facilities. Meals to the seniors will continue to be delivered until further notice. These temporary closures will be evaluated after April 6, 2020.

The Department Heads shall coordinate with the Commissioner Liaison for each Department to develop modifications, if necessary, to minimize contact among individuals and continue to provide essential services.

Sick employees must stay at home. County employees afflicted with COVID-19 or another illness will be compensated through sick, vacation, or comp time.

All events and reservations at County Community Centers are suspended unless specific approval is granted by the Commissioner Liaison for the Pershing County Economic Development Authority. This suspension shall remain until April 6, 2020, at which time the suspension will be evaluated.

Non-essential travel for County related business is prohibited until April 6, 2020. This restriction will be evaluated after this time.

The Pershing County Commissioners will continue to hold its regularly scheduled meetings. Attendance will be limited to no more than 50 (50) people.

This directive is adopted this 17th day of March, 2020.
